3. Reported Speech แบบ Reported Question
การเปลี่ยนประโยคคำถาม (Question) เป็น Reported Speech มีวิธีการเปลี่ยน Tense คำหรือข้อความบอกเวลา และคำหรือข้อความที่บ่งบอกความใกล้-ไกลเหมือนกับ Reported Statement แบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภทตามลักษณะของคำถาม คือ
(1) ประโยคคำถามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยกริยาช่วย (Yes/No Questions) เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็น Reported Speech ให้ทำดังนี้
1.1 ใช้กริยานำ คือ ask(ถามว่า), inquire(ถามว่า),wonder(สงสัยว่า),want to know(อยากรู้ว่า)
1.2 ใช้ if หรือ whether เป็นตัวเชื่อม มีความหมายว่า "ใช่หรือไม่" (จะใช้คำใดก็ได้)
1.3 เรียงคำในประโยคให้อยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่า
เช่น
Direct Speech : They asked, "Can we leave now?"
Reported Speech : They asked if they could leave then.
(1) ใช้กริยานำว่า asked เพราะประโยคที่มี Direct Speech มีกริยานำว่า asked อยู่แล้ว
(2) ใช้ if เป็นตัวเชื่อม
(3) เปลี่ยนคำบอกเวลาจากคำว่า now เป็น then
(4) เปลี่ยน we เป็น they เพราะผู้พูดคือ They
(5) เรียงคำที่เปลี่ยนจาก Direct Speech ให้อยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่า คือ ประธาน + กริยา + ….……
(จากเดิม Can we …..…. เป็น They could ………)
Direct Speech : She said to me, "Does Jim like Thai food?"
Reported Speech : She asked me whether Jim liked Thai food.
(1) เปลี่ยนกริยานำจาก said เป็น asked
(2) ใช้ whether เป็นตัวเชื่อม
(3) เปลี่ยน like จากช่องที่ 1 เป็นช่องที่ 2 คือ liked
(4) เรียงคำที่เปลี่ยนจาก Direct Speech ให้อยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่า คือ ประธาน + กริยา + ….……
(จากเดิม Does Jim like …..…. เป็น Jim liked ………)
2. ประโยคคำถามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย Question words (Wh- Questions) เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็น Reported Speech ให้ทำดังนี้
2.1 ใช้กริยานำ คือ ask(ถามว่า), inquire(ถามว่า),wonder(สงสัยว่า),want to know(อยากรู้ว่า)
2.2 ใช้ Question words เป็นตัวเชื่อม
2.3 เรียงคำในประโยคให้อยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่า
เช่น
Direct Speech : They asked, "Who can speak English?"
Reported Speech : They asked who could speak English.
(1) ใช้กริยานำว่า asked เพราะประโยคที่มี Direct Speech มีกริยานำว่า asked อยู่แล้ว
(2) ใช้ who เป็นตัวเชื่อม เพราะ who เป็น question word
(3) เปลี่ยน can เป็น could
(4) ข้อความใน Direct Speech เรียงคำอยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่าอยู่แล้ว คือ ประธาน + กริยา + ……
จึงคัดลอกลงใน Reported Speech ได้เลย
Direct Speech : She said to me, "When will Jim go to Japan?"
Reported Speech : She asked me when Jim would go to Japan.
(1) เปลี่ยนกริยานำจาก said เป็น asked
(2) ใช้ when เป็นตัวเชื่อม เพราะ when เป็น question word
(3) เปลี่ยน will เป็น would
(4) เรียงคำที่เปลี่ยนจาก Direct Speech ให้อยู่ในรูปของประโยคบอกเล่า คือ ประธาน + กริยา + ….……
จากเดิม will Jim go …..…. เป็น Jim would go ………

Direct Speech: She said to me, "When will Jim go to Japan?"
Reported Speech(น่าจะเปลี่ยนเป็น Reported question) : She asked me when Jim would go to Japan.
